Panamanian Condo Hotel

Hotel-view01-old

Have you been in Panama City?Do you know that in Panama City, there's an oldest continuously operating hotel and it will become the most exciting urban destination.Built in 1915, the Hotel Casco Antiguo is a landmark in the district of the Casco Antiguo (also known as the Casco Viejo or the Old City). This rich historic district, which is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, was built around 1673 by the Spanish Garrison, the Catholic Church, and other settlers. Currently, this entire historic area is undergoing a major effort to restore the architecture and the culture of the area to reflect its 17th century roots.Upon its completion, the restored Hotel Casco Antiguo will be a condominium-hotel with 34 rooms and a full complement of amenities. A first in Panama, guests and owners will have access to the inaccessible through in-house concierge services provided by Quintessentially, the world's leading luxury lifestyle group.

What I like in this place is that there's an open-air pool with panoramic rooftop views of the Pacific Ocean, Panama City and the Canal.Historic balconies rebuilt on the street façade, as well as the courtyard façade.There's also an on-site business center with the latest high-speed technology resources.But do you know that you can own this piece of history.Despite of current market conditions, property is still a terrific long-term investment.One of the best option I consider at this moment is a second home purchase.If you wanted to learn more about this investment please try to Register for an eBrochure Here.I think this is the great place to live and invest.

Bubble-Wrap Baby

(image from dailymail.co.uk)

A premature baby was kept alive with bubble wrap, says a report from Mail Online.The little mite swaddled in bubble wrap is Gregor Craig who was just 24 weeks weighing a tiny 1lb 14oz - so small that his father's wedding ring fitted over his arm.His chances of survival were slim, but doctors wanted to give him every chance.So they wrapped him in the bubble wrap to keep him warm. Hospitals often use plastic wrap to help premature babies retain their body heat, but this was the first time the doctors in Kintyre, western Scotland, had used the bubble variety.Luckily their efforts paid off and five months later he has finally been allowed home with his family in Argyll.

His mother, Martine Craig, suffered a previous miscarriage.She was worried about losing her new baby.But then just a week after her 23-week scan Mrs Craig began suffering severe stomach pain. She went to Campbeltown hospital in Kintyre where doctors told her she was suffering from a urinary tract infection. A few hours later, the infection had triggered labour and the doctors couldn't stop it.But miraculously, Gregor survived the birth.

Protect Your Personal Privacy

I have checked my e-mails lately and was quiet annoyed with dozens of strange messages.The problem was,I didn’t recall sending that many emails out, especially to questionable email addresses.Some of my precious time were wasted erasing those undeliverable messages.

There were also times that hadn't sent any spam emails but I was receiving undeliverable spam messages back to my account. It made me think for a moment, why do spammers do this?I made a research about this and was able to find good answers from privacycouncil.org.It was mention in their site that spammers know that most emails sent without a valid “From:” address (or those sent from addresses and/or domains that are known as spam originators and are blocked accordingly) don’t reach their destinations. A forged return address gives an air of legitimacy to the mailing. The spammers aren’t using your server for their mass mailing; they’re just using your email address in the “From:” field.Spam email lists are notoriously inaccurate, as a high percentage of the emails on the lists are no longer active or deliverable. Of the undeliverable emails sent, most will simply disappear, but 7-10% of the emails will be accepted by the server on the other end, then sent back as undeliverable later. These are the bounce-backs that end up causing the problem.

There was another question,how can be stop those spam and junk mail?Good thing there were company that can help you in protecting your personal privacy like your email.The Privacy Council offers a full list removal service.They can remove you from the major mailing lists, call lists and marketing lists.

Secret of Longevity in Okinawa

The Island of Okinawa, Japan were estimated to have nearly 740 centenarians in 2006- 90 percent of whom were woman- out of population of 1.3 millions. This represents about 50 centenarians for every 100,000 people, according to the Okinawa Centenarian Study, headed by Dr. Makoto Suzuki.The goal of the Okinawa Centenarian Study is to uncover the genetic and lifestyle factors responsible for this remarkable successful aging phenomenon for the betterment of the health and lives of all people.

When Dr. Suzuki first began his studies, he found an unusual number of centenarians to be in extraordinarily healthy shape. They were lean, youthful-looking, energetic, and had remarkably low rates of heart disease and cancer-even stomach cancer, which claimed many mainland Japanese. And they enjoyed the longest life expectancy in the world.The secret?

One major factor was genetics.But there were other factors too- the avoidance of tobacco, moderation in the use of alcohol, and a good diet. The Okinawan diet tends to be low in calories and high in vegetables and fruits, natural fiber, and good fats.The people have the habit of eating only until they are about 80% full. "You should stop at the first feeling of fullness you get," says Dr. Bradley Willcox, a coinvestigator in the study."There's no magic pill" for longevity,he added.As the study revealed, it is influenced by genes diet, exercise, good habits," and healthy ways of coping with stress."

Halloween's Top 10 Scary Creatures from LiveScience.com

1. Vampires

They want to suck your blood, and have for quite some time. Vampires have popped up in cultural folklore for thousands of years, though the fanged-and-coiffed version we know comes from the 18th and 19th-century myths of Eastern Europe.There, it was believed that someone who was born with deformities or died an irregular death could, after burial, rise again to terrorize the living. Vampires were considered eundeade and needed to feast on human blood to remain so.

2. Ghosts

Poke two eye holes in a bed sheet and you've got the easiest Halloween costume around. Becoming a real ghost is a bit more complicated. First you have to die, maybe tragically, then leave part of your soul hanging around earth to spook relatives and haunt houses. From a supposedly scientific angle, parapsychologists argue that energy including what's in the body can never be completely destroyed. Society seems to agree: various studies peg belief in ghosts at about 50 percent.

3. Witches

Forget the pointy black hat and warty nose. Those popular associations are relatively recent compared with the long and often tragic history of witches across the globe. In the past, witches were thought to possess magical powers connected with the natural world. Like all pagans, they were demonized as heretics by the Christian church, a hunt that reached its apex in medieval Europe and 17th-century America. Good luck picking them out of a crowd today: witch costumes frequently top the list at Halloween.

4.Bats

They're blind, they hang out in caves and they inspire masked crusaders. But how did bats become associated with Halloween? The winged mammals can thank vampires for that. Like their Draculian counterparts, a small number of bat species actually subsist on animal bloody vampire bats have been known to attack humans on occasion using sharp teeth to cut into the sleeping victim. Their nocturnal ways and connection to Ozzy Osbourne probably don't help either.

5. Jack-oe-Lanterns

A standout among freaks and monsters, the nutritious pumpkin may be Halloween's most famous symbol. The practice of carving and lighting the gourd is a Celtic custom brought to America by Irish immigrants, who used the more-plentiful turnip back home. Glowing, frightening faces emanating from the pumpkins were meant to frighten off the evil spirits thought to roam the streets on Oct. 31, the Celtic New Year's Eve.

6. Werewolves

Typically normal and well-mannered until a Full Moon kicks in, werewolves are cursed shapeshifters that have appeared in the legend set of nearly every culture going back to ancient Greece. Like witches, they were hunted in medieval times and blamed for community murders that couldn't be explained otherwise. Though the violent werewolf stories of old seem to have fallen off the radar, except in Hollywood, there remains an excessive body-hair disorder lovingly nicknamed "the werewolf disease."

7. Zombies

Kings of the b-movie industry, zombies are individuals who've either had their souls sucked from their bodies or been revived from the dead through black magic. Zombie culture stems from the voodoo religion of Haiti, where it is still believed that people can fall into mindless trances just like the walking dead we've seen on film (minus the missing limbs and snacking on human flesh). An ethnobotanist investigating the claims in Haiti found a toxic drug that could actually induce a zombie-style catatonic state.

8. Gargoyles

They were one way to add a little freaky je ne sais quoi to otherwise lovely architecture. But gargoyles, those frightening stone monsters protruding from cathedrals worldwide, do actually have a function. They were incorporated into gothic stonework as early as the 13th-century to keep rain water off cathedral roofs, their mouths serving as the ejector spout. More spiritually, gargoyles were supposed to protect the congregation from the ever-present evil forces lurking outside. Two birds with one stone, so to speak.

9. Demons

One of those all-encompassing terms for an "evil spirit," a demon can represent anything from a malevolent ghost or fallen angel to a puppet of Satan. Like the notion of evil itself, they have ancient origins and appear in folklore and literature across the world. The demon that possessed Linda Blair in "The Exorcist" is probably pop culture's most famous and most talented, with levitation capability, rotating head and amazing, life-like spewing action!

10. Goblins

Made famous in fairy tales, the small and furry goblin is more mischievous than menacing. Legend tells of goblins hiding out in forests, pulling pranks and sometimes switching human babies for their own changeling spawn. Unlike some of the other creatures mentioned here and probably because of their disconnect from religion, goblins never quite crossed the threshold from the imaginary to cause real panic in medieval towns.

Snake Orchid in Vietnam

Named for its white to light green flowers, the newly described orchid Saccolabiopsis viridiflora marks the first time an orchid from this genus has been reported in Vietnam, say the National Geographic. The small flowers open widely in full bloom but are odorless.The WWF surveys that found S. viridiflora between 2005 and 2006 also found four other newly named orchid species, as well as four more orchids that might be new to science but are still being investigated.

Stress Free Life

Do often fell stress sometimes?Do you know that stress can influence your weight.According to research, emotions influence our hormones which in turn influence our emotions which influence our eating habits.One of my friend experience it lately.She often had difficulty in her work.To escape to her problem she tends to eat lot of food.Lately,she's now overweight (with fat belly).She's starting to worry about it.Some of her clothes won't fit anymore. So,I advised her to had a Flat Belly Diet program.The revolutionary Flat Belly Diet program recognizes the role stress plays in weight gain, especially belly fat.Tackling stress has to be part of any diet, and the Flat Belly Diet encourages stress management as part of the regimen.I also said to her that if she want to lose weight and keep it off you have to address to reasons that you’re overeating in the first place. Chances are it’s mood-related: stress, boredom, depression,etc.I always remind her to try to relax,take some deep breaths and make time for you.It will always make you feel better.She asked where do I got those ideas and how to start that Flat Belly Diet program.I said I read it from a book .She very happy to hear this.

As some may say,"So let’s make a change today, even if it’s baby steps, towards an stress-free lifestyle!"

Is Bottled Water Safe?

According to U.S. News and World Report, the America's thirst for bottled water seems unquenchable reaching nearly 30 billion bottles a year. Many consumers do not realize, however, that most bottled water is simply tap water, so "anyone who is opting for bottled over municipal water for health reasons is misguided," says the magazine. What flows out of tap in many countries is monitored to ensure conformity to strict standard.And when compared with the "outrageously expensive" bottled alternatives, tap water is also "practically free".

Rising Temperature in Arctic

Autumn temperatures in the Arctic are at record levels, the Arctic Ocean is getting warmer and less salty as sea ice melts, and reindeer herds appear to be declining, says the Time Magazine.According to Jackie Richter-Menge of the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, N.H, the planet is interconnected so what happens in Arctic does matter.

The region has long been expected to be among the first areas to show impacts from global warming, which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says is largely a result of human activities adding carbon dioxide and other gases to the atmosphere.

The report noted that 2007 was the warmest year on record the Arctic, leading to a record loss of sea ice. This year's sea ice melt was second only to 2007.

Rising temperatures help melt the ice, which in turn allows more solar heating of the ocean. That warming of the air and ocean affects land and marine life, and reduces the amount of winter sea ice that lasts into the following summer.

The study also noted a warming trend on Arctic land and increase in greenness as shrubs move north into areas that were formerly permafrost.

While the warming continues, the rate in this century is less than in the 1990s due to natural variability, the researchers said.

In addition to global warming there are natural cycles of warming and cooling, and a warm cycle in the 1990s added to the temperature rise. Now with a cooler cycles in some areas the rise in temperatures has slowed, but Overland said he expects that it will speed up again when the next natural warming cycle comes around.

Asked if an increase in radiation from the sun was having an effect on the Earth's climate, Jason Box of the Byrd Polar Research Center in Columbus, Ohio, said while it's important, increased solar output only accounts for about 10 percent of global warming.

Welcome to my life

I would to share to you some things you don't know about me.But I also like to know some details about you....so please check this out...

Exotic Orchid in New Guinea

—Photograph ) WWF/Wayne Harris

"In addition to the eight new orchids recently discovered in Papua new Guinea,scientist found previously known but still impressive species which is the Dendrobium spectabile" says the National Geographic.

Whether well-known or yet to be discovered, the plants and animals of New Guinea's rain forests face mounting threats as oil and gas operations continue to expand in the region, according to the WWF scientists who discovered the flowers.

Olo Gebia, WWF Forest ecologist, sadly said that these plants may become to extinct before they been discovered.Also mentioned that this gives even greater urgency to ensuring the long-term conservation of this remarkable region.

The Spider Silk

photo by shinichiro on flicker

For decades, scientist have studied the the silk produced by orb-weaving spiders.The Dragline silk is the strongest of the seven silks these spiders can spin which attracted most attention.It is tougher and more waterproof than silkworm strands, which are commonly used in clothing.

Mark Carwardine says in The Guiness Book of Animal Records 1995. "Spider silk is the strongest of all natural and man-made fibres.... It is even stronger than steel: the dragline of a European garden spider (Araneus diadematus), for example, can support a weight of 0.5 g (0.002 oz) without snapping, whereas a steel strand of similar thickness will snap under the strain of just 0.25 g (0.01 oz)."

The manufacture of industrial fibers such as Keviar requires high temperature and the use of organic solvents.In constrast,spiders produce silk at room temperature, using water as a solvent.Furthermore, dragline silk is tougher than Kevlar.

At How Stuff Works we are told. "Spider silk is extremely strong -- it is about five times stronger than steel and twice as strong as Kevlar of the same weight. Spider silk also has the ability to stretch about 30-percent longer than its original length without breaking, which makes it very resilient."

But replicating dragline silk is not easy, for the material is made inside the spider's body and the process is not yet fully understood. According to Cheryl Y. Hayashi , a biologist, that it is humbling to realize that a lot of very smart people are trying to replicate what the spider in our basements can do naturally (quoted in Chemical & Engineering News Magazine.)

Six Keys to Personal Success

I read an interesting article about the Bible principles the can help you reach your goal from Awake magazine.This is a journal published for the enlightenment of the entire family.It shows how to cope with today's problems.It reports the news,tells about people in many lands,examines religion and science.

In their November 2008 issue, they presented the six keys to personal success.These are

1. Keep Money in its Place

“The love of money is root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have...stabbed themselves all over with many pains” (1 Timothy 6:10)

People who avidly chase after riches as the key to success are, in fact, pursuing a mirage.Money is not just a cruel master but a deceitful one as well.Love for money is self-defeating and ultimately leads to disappointment frustration, or even crime. (Proverbs 28:20).

2. Cultivate a Generous Disposition

"There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving." (Acts 20:35)While occasional giving can produce moments of happiness, a generous disposition can engender a state of happiness.

3.Forgive Freely

"Continue...forgiving one another freely if anyone has a cause for complaint against another.Even as God freely forgave you, so do you also." (Colossians 3:13)

In a study of more than 4,600 18- to 30-year-olds," says a report in the Gazette of Montreal,Canada,researchers "found that the more hostile,frustrated and mean-spirited the personality" was, the more unhealthy the person's lungs were.In fact, some of the harmful effects were even greater than those for a current smoker. Indeed, a forgiving attitude is not just a good social lubricant but also good medicine.

4.Comply With God's Standards

"The commandment of God is clean,making the eyes shine." (Psalm 19:8) To put it simply, God's standards are good for us- physically, mentally, and emotionally.

5.Show Unselfish Love

"Love builds up." (1 Corinthians 8:1)

The form of love mentioned here is not the sexual kind, which of course, has its place.Rather, it is richer, more lasting love governed by godly principles.

6.Be Conscious of Your Spiritual Need

"Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need." (Matthew 5:3)Unlike animals, human have the capacity to appreciate spiritual things.

Our Creator wants more for us than temporary success for a mere 70 to 80 years.He wants us to be successful forever!

True success is the achievement of the very best way of life, one that results from the application of God's standards and that harmonizes with his purpose for us.

Laser Eye Technology

Do you that today, NASA and the U.S. Military were able to increase the mission-critical personnel using the vision correction technologies or the LASIK technology.How these LASIK technology works or any LASIK information? Well, these modern LASIK, also known as the iLASIK™ Procedure, uses two lasers instead of one (unlike the earlier version of procedure).Wave-front technology maps the uniques characteristics of the individual's eyes is the first stage of ILASIK. Then, an ultrafast, computer-guided laser creates a corneal flap. This laser replaces the handheld microkeratome blade used in older forms of LASIK and makes the procedure safe.After the flap is created, the wave-front mapping data guides a second laser for vision correction. The combination of these advanced laser technologies creates a custom-fit procedure clinically proven to provide excellent safety and visual results.

These LASIK technology had benefited civilians for more than five years.According to Steven Schallhorn, M.D., a retired U.S. Navy captain and leader of clinical research and studies done for the DOD regarding the use of LASIK, the DOD and NASA have validated the fact that today’s LASIK exceeds all established standards of safety and effectiveness.In fact, all-laser form of LASIK has been tapped by the Department of Defense (DOD) and NASA to improve the vision of specialized personnel facing extreme, physically demanding conditions.Some notable results of the military’s evaluation of modern LASIK in 100 military personnel showed that 95% achieved 20/20 uncorrected vision or better.

Hormone-Altering Cosmetics Chemicals

Laboratory tests from Environmental Working Group (EWG) reveal adolescent girls across America are contaminated with chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and body care products. They were able to detect that 16 chemicals from 4 chemical families - phthalates, triclosan, parabens, and musks - in blood and urine samples from 20 teen girls aged 14-19. Studies link these chemicals to potential health effects including cancer and hormone disruption. These tests feature first-ever exposure data for parabens in teens, and indicate that young women are widely exposed to this common class of cosmetic preservatives, with 2 parabens, methylparaben and propylparaben, detected in every single girl tested.

Emerging research suggests that teens may be particularly sensitive to exposures to trace levels of hormone-disrupting chemicals like the ones targeted in this study, given the cascade of closely interrelated hormonal signals orchestrating the transformation from childhood to adulthood.

Prayer of St.Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Plastic Bottle Codes

Do you ever wonder what are those codes found at the bottom of plastics bottles.The symbols used in the code consist of arrows that cycle clockwise to form a rounded triangle and enclosing a number.Well these are the SPI resin identification coding system developed by the Society of the Plastics Industry.The SPI resin identification code (also known as the material container code) system has been developed to provide a consistent national system to facilitate recycling of post-consumer plastics through the normal channels for collecting recyclable materials from household waste. Improper use of the SPI resin identification code can have serious ramifications for individual manufacturers and could jeopardize the integrity of the coding system.

The thebudgetecoist.com summarize the meaning of each numbers.

#1 Polyethylene Terephthalate:Used for most clear beverage bottles, this is the number you'll likely see at the bottom of your plastic water bottle.
#2 High Density Polyethylene: Used for white plastic milk jugs and opaque food bottles.
#3 Polyvinyl Chloride: Used in some cling wraps and "soft" bottles. Vinyl chloride, the chemical used to make PVC, is a known human carcinogen, according to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer.
#4 Low Density Polyethylene: Used in food storage bags.
#5 Polypropylene: Used in hard containers, such as the "throwaway types" you buy in the store, some baby bottles, cups and bowls.
#6 Polystyrene: Used in foam "to-go"-type containers, meat and bakery trays, clear take-out containers, some plastic cutlery and cups. According to The Green Guide, "Polystyrene may leach styrene into food it comes into contact with. A recent study in Environmental Health Perspectives concluded that some styrene compounds leaching from food containers are estrogenic (meaning they can disrupt normal hormonal functioning)." Styrene is also considered a possible human carcinogen by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer.
#7 Other (usually polycarbonate): Used in 5-gallon water bottles, some baby bottles. Polycarbonate is another suspected hormone disruptor.

Avoid number 3, 6 and 7 whenever possible. Because leaching is most prevalent at higher temperatures, pay special attention to microwaveable food containers.
